The journey starts from the town of Santa Fiora, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, or from Abbadia San Salvatore or Arcidosso. Following a road between the green mountain and the valley, with views towards Monte Argentario, you will pass small villages and castles, before arriving in Sorano, a picturesque town located on a volcanic tuff stone cliff, overlooking the valley of the Lente river.

Due to the town’s particular conformation, characterised by numerous houses and buildings dug into the tuff, Sorano is nicknamed the "Matera of Tuscany". Already inhabited during the Etruscan period, the historic heart of Sorano, with narrow streets, bridges and arches, is dominated by the Orsini Fortress: an imposing fortification from 1552 whose basements are a labyrinth of tunnels, some of which are Etruscan in origin.

After Sorano you will continue along the road to reach Pitigliano, a town founded around 750 years BC. Here the past melds with the present, medieval architecture merges with the Etruscan caves dug into the rock face. We recommend lunch in the small hostaria in the village, but there are also many bars for a pizza or panino. In the early afternoon our private driver (NCC) will pick you up and take you to the Saturnia thermal baths for a swim before returning to your starting point.
